Thank you to everyone who supported our 2010 season. We hope all audience members enjoyed their evening and the wonderful supper that followed!
We hope to see you again in 2011 - watch this space for details of performances, venues and soloists.
The Wensleydale Chorus 2010
We are proud to announce the piece for 2010 as The Creation by Haydn. Our soloists for this year are: Soprano - Laura Ashton, Contralto - Emma Wardell, Tenor - Paul Smith, Bass - Jolyon Dodgson and we are delighted to announce the return of Greg Smith to the organ after an absence of a couple of years. Our conductor of the past 28 years, Mr Stanley Roocroft MBE will once again be at the helm to expertly guide us through this momentous work and help us to enjoy a really good sing again. Performances of the Creation will take place at St Oswald's Church, Askrigg on 17th July and St John's Church, East Witton on 24th July. Both performances commence at 19:30 and tickets will be £6.00 to include supper at both venues.
Fancy joining us? We start rehearsals on Wednesday 5th May, 19:30 at the Methodist Chapel School Room, Leyburn and the first rrehearsal ends at 21:00 so we can have a cuppa and a catch up with old friends. Rehearsals normally finish at 21:30 and will take place weekly until 7th July with a Saturday morning workshop being held at Hawes Market House on 22nd May 10:00 - 13:00. We would love to see you at the rehearsals & performance for a good sing in a friendly and happy atmosphere (we don't hold auditions for acceptance here) so why not come along to see for yourself what a good time can be had along with the other 80 or so people in the chorus? You will be most welcome by one and all. For further information, please contact our secretary, Gilda at gilda@fosnet.plus.com
We have our rehearsal and then finish in time to have a tea or coffee and catch up with old friends (some we don't see from one year to the next) or to welcome and make friends with new faces. If you are new to the area or just fancy joining in then please get in touch - you will be warmly welcomed (especially if you sing Tenor!).
There is so much I could say about The Wensleydale Chorus. The Chorus usually has about 80 or so members and they rehearse for only 10 weeks or thereabouts from May to July.
Two performances take place at the end of the 10 weeks and then the Chorus doesn't meet again until the same time the following year. It's a right good sing between lambing and haytime!
Every-one will be more than welcome.
The Wensleydale Chorus 2009.
Once again The Wensleydale Chorus put on a magnificent performance .
Rutter's Magnificat is a beautiful but challenging work and of course who wouldn't enjoy taking part and singing a favourite with many - Mozart's Requiem.
Our concerts took place in July in Aysgarth and East Witton and were well supported at both venues so thank you to all those who came along.
A huge thank you to all our Patrons who, even in the difficult economic climate supported us and helped to make it possible to keep the Chorus singing!
If you fancy a sing come along it is 28 years since the Chorus first met and Stanley Roocroft MBE has been at the helm for them all !!
We are always in need of new Chorus members and also if you don't fancy singing but would like to support us you could become a Patron and get your name in our programme!!
